After all these years River’s movies have morphed into another thing entirely for me personally (it’s hard to reconcile that once upon a time he was older than me and I used to look up to him, and now he’s always SO young) so it’s hard to ever include them in anything, since I’m so biased.

Dogfight is a sweet movie though, and he and Lili Taylor are so great together. It’s also interesting to see River play completely against type, since by all accounts he was an easygoing sort of hippie fellow 😎. His jarhead is totally convincing, yet he still manages to make the character a little bit River.  He was just always so perfect.  Smoothly awkward? Just really genuine.  He was one of those actors that almost couldn’t help but be real.  Needless to say, I can go on and on about River Phoenix.  Anybody who knows me knows that 😶

But apart from all THAT, this movie really is sweet and romantic.  River and Lili are so so good, and there are a couple of quiet moments there, like the scene where he’s looking at her when she’s singing, or the ending… Ah… SO good. And sad. Of course.

I'm a lifelong writer and reader who finally got up the nerve to start my first novel. Wish me luck! In the meantime, I like to share my views on all things cheesy, creepy, deep, and/or ridiculous. Like me.
